Both Dan Southworth and Yoshi Sudarso have been on Power Rangers with Dan portrayed Eric Myers/The Quantum Ranger on Power Rangers Time Force (2001) and Yoshi portrayed Koda/The Dino Charge Blue Ranger on Power Rangers Dino Charge (2015) respectively.

Both Mike Moh and Mark Dacascos have appeared on Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight (2008) with Mike portrayed Hunt/Danny Cho (Kamen Rider Axe) and Mark portrayed Advent Master (Eubulon) respectively.

The film was produced for streaming service Netflix.

It was announced in August 2020 that a sequel to the 2013 Universal Keanu Reeves fantasy/action movie is being planned, even though the first one was a critical and financial failure (it reportedly lost almost $25 million). A script hadn't been written yet, but Ron Yuan, who was hired to direct, called it a "genre-blending, martial arts, action, horror and cyber-punk film" and promised it will be a "fun, intense, supercharged thrill ride for viewers globally."

Both Dan Southworth and Mark Dacascos have worked together in Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2011) with Dan portrayed Kenshi and Mark portrayed Kung Lao.
