The prison sequences were shot at a real prison in Bulgaria and actual prisoners were extras in the scenes.
Creating the climactic fight scene between Daniel Bernhardt and Stefanos Miltsakakis was tough and trying. It was filmed during a single 15-hour shoot and left Bernhardt with an injured knee and Miltsakakis with a hurt shoulder. So vigorous was the choreography that Bernhardt was legitimately punched in the face several times.
The plot is the same as that of Death Warrant, an early Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle, and Daniel Bernhardt took over Jean-Claude's role in this franchise. They also went on to star together years later in Kill 'Em All.
Daniel Bernhardt and Lisa Stothard ended up having a daughter named Bella together in 2003.
Daniel Bernhardt plays a different character in this movie than he did in the previous two Bloodsport movies. In this movie he plays John Keller in the previous two movies he played Alex Cardo.
"Keller: No! I will not kill. This man fought with skill and dignity, and you would have me destroy that integrity? And why? To satisfy your lust for death? There was a time when the Kumite meant honor, but I see now that Kumite is dead. It has become nothing more than a bloodsport."
"Warden Preston: If any of you even thinks of stepping out of line, the punishment is simple. Death. By slow torture."
