Trivia

The voice of bridge engineer Washington Roebling was provided by his great-grandson, actor Paul Roebling.

Features a group of children from the City & Country School, a famous progressive K-8 school in New York City, building a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge. The City & Country School clip was shot in 1978.

The film made its national premiere on PBS on 24 May 1982 - the 99th anniversary of the bridge's opening.

Ken Burns asked David McCullough, whose book inspired the documentary to be interviewed for it. McCullough, who hadn't heard of Burns, refused. Burns sent some clips of what he had filmed to the author, who upon seeing it was so impressed that he asked Burns if he could narrate the film.
