Bernard Rose originally conceived a sequel to his 1992 hit Candyman (1992) as not featuring the eponymous character at all but instead continuing to explore the nature of urban horror myths. This was quickly scotched when the producers figured that audiences would show up because they wanted to see Candyman eviscerate his victims.
Bernard Rose, who wrote and directed Candyman (1992) was asked to pen a script for the sequel. The script was rejected.
Tuesday Knight reported to have turned down a role, claiming it was the only horror film she regrets turning down.
There was much controversy about the poster that was used to advertise the film. During this time the O.J. Simpson trial was still very public and ongoing, so the picture of a black man stalking a white woman was seen as controversial, and the original artwork was quickly omitted.
Mrs. Tarrant refers to her physician, Dr. Loomis, which is an obvious reference to Donald Pleasence's character in Halloween (1978) and its sequels.
"Candyman: Swallow your horror and let it nourish you. Come with me and sing the song of misery. Share my world!"
"Octavia Tarrant: Death is a return, you know. We leave life just like we came in. Annie Tarrant: Alone? Octavia Tarrant: Naked, blind, and covered in our own shit."
