TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

George MacKay practiced yoga 3-4 hours a day once he was cast as Bo so he could do the advanced poses he did in the film. He said it was the toughest part of the shoot for him.

At a screening in San Francisco, Matt Ross revealed that over the course of filming, the group of children came to call Viggo Mortensen "Summer Dad".

The alternative lifestyle of the family seems very realistic in the film - this is actually a detail Viggo Mortenson especially paid attention to and questioned Matt Ross to make sure all the living components were accurate. Luckily for Matt Ross, he actually drew on his own childhood growing up with an alternative off-grid lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest, not at all dissimilar from that in the film.

The actors went on a two-day survival trip, slept together as a family in a hut they built made of ferns. They learned how to track, how to start a fire with a bow drill and they read a lot and learnt about the world's political systems.

Matt Ross said a member of the team contacted Noam Chomsky to clear his quotes for use in the film. "The way he responded was indicative of the human being that he is, no lawyers, just 'please quote me correctly.'"

Popular Dialogues

"Ben: When you have sex with a woman, be gentle and listen to her. Treat her with respect and dignity even if you don't love her. Bo: I know. Ben: Always tell the truth. Always take the high road. Bo: I know. Ben: Live each day like it could be your last. Drink it in. Be adventurous, be bold, but savor it. It goes fast. Bo: I know. Ben: Don't die. Bo: I won't."

"Rellian: If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world."
