Rotten TomatoesIt's wonderful to watch a movie that highlights the distinct culture of Mexican and Hispanic residents of New Mexico. You can witness Spanish and Spanglish in a well-known dialect in this film titled Chupa. The attention to detail in the settings and the distinctive New Mexico blue skies is truly commendable. So much so the break on the side of the road is also captured perfectly. Rarely do films have characters of every body type, skin tone, and more. The Chupacabra tale has captivated Mexican and Hispanic people for many years. It was fantastic to see this enchanting tale being depicted in such a positive light on film. The actors gave genuine, enjoyable, and relatable performances. Cuaron truly has the gift of capturing the essence of a stirring storyline. The plot development takes place effortlessly and the film is full of adventure, action, and emotions. It is an entertaining movie that deserves to be watched.

The announcement of the name was met with some criticism due to the word "chupa" being a slang term for fellatio in Spanish and Filipino.
Filming took place in multiple locations throughout New Mexico starting in August and running through October 2021.
Although it's been appropriated by Mexicans, the chupacabra actually originated in Puerto Rico and it's only after it was popularized there that it began to spread to other places.
They used a real dog on the set as a stand in for Chupa. This was because the filmmakers thought its better with a real animal than just a puppet to act with. The dogs name is Harper. Its not stated what kind of dog Harper was.
