Mr Bridwell is named after the "Clifford the Big Red Dog" book series creator Norman Bridwell.
Uncle Casey gives Owen's dog Brutus the nickname of T-Bone, in reference to Clifford's best dog friend in Clifford the Big Red Dog (2000).
2nd theatrical film based off of the Clifford the Big Red Dog book series, after Clifford's Really Big Movie (2004) from Warner Bros., which was a film that served as a closing point to the Clifford the Big Red Dog (2000) television series under the same continuity/format.
Kenan Thompson, who plays Clifford's veterinarian, had a guest role in Clifford the Big Red Dog (2000), where he voiced a dog named Hamburger, the best friend of T-Bone (voiced by Thompson's longtime comedy partner Kel Mitchell).
In the closing credits, Clifford is alongside a mural that has him painted in his animated/illustrated look from the books and cartoons.
"Emily Elizabeth: How big is he going to get? Mr. Bridwell: That depends, doesn't it? Emily Elizabeth: On what? Mr. Bridwell: On how much you love him."
"Mr. Jarvis: [after Clifford saves him from falling] Your dog just saved my life!"
