Collection is a crime thriller film that follows a debt collector named Brandon, who is part of a team that uses increasingly shady methods to pursue debts from lenders. However, Brandon's attention is drawn away from his work when he meets Christina, a widow struggling with debts of her own. The film's focus on characters who have limited power and a lot to lose adds weight to this solid little thriller, which has some valuable lessons to teach those who are themselves at risk of being preyed on by debt collectors. Despite some structural problems, the characters have more depth than is usual in such tales, and the film has an emotional core that will resonate with viewers who have struggled with debt themselves. Barrera's performance is a highlight of the film, illustrating the widespread psychological damage done by the mistreatment of migrants. Overall, Collection is a good attempt at a social crime thriller with some solid acting on display, which is at least a one-time watch.
