Throughout the series, the German license plates on the "other side" are missing the blue/yellow EU symbol on the left, and the banknotes are Deutsche Mark instead of Euros, showing that the European Union never existed in the alternate world.
The title sequence features black and white stones from the Go board game, which Howard and Andrei play. The game is popular for having the most number of alternative combinations for a move (2x10^170), while an opponent tries to occupy more territory on a board than their competitor.
Michael Nyqvist was originally cast in the role of Chekhov (later renamed Aldrich) that went to Ulrich Thomsen after Nyqvist dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Nyqvist later died in the late June of 2017, during production of the series.
Jamie Bamber (Eric), Harry Lloyd (Peter Quayle) and Nicholas Pinnock (Ian Shaw) all worked on the British crime series "Marcella".
The title sequence was created with the focus on "templates of destiny".
