TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The Eden House, featured in the movie, is a real hotel, and is the oldest hotel in Key West. Built in 1924 as the Gibson Hotel, it was purchased in 1975 by titular owner, Mike Eden. According to Mr. Eden, on the hotel's web site: "The movie CrissCross (1992) starring Goldie Hawn was filmed at the Eden House for five months over the summer of 1990. Scott Sommer wrote the short story CrissCross while staying at the Eden House in early 1976." The Eden House is still in business and has been totally renovated since the movie.

Chris indicates that he was worried about the astronauts getting stranded on the Moon. That was a serious concern, because there was no way to rescue them. There was a speech prepared for President Nixon in case of that, and other failure possibilities were covered in it also.

The monastery visited in the film is popularly called "The Ancient Spanish Monastery" and is situated in North Miami, FL. It was built in Spain, 1133-1141, as "The Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux". It was purchased in 1925 by William Randolph Hearst, disassembled, and shipped to the US in 11,000 crated pieces. It was eventually reassembled in North Miami by subsequent owners.

It is said this rare dramatic portrayal by Goldie Hawn is in part because this was a "passion project" for her; she is also the uncredited Executive Producer.

Although he was only one of at least three major TV network newscasters covering the Apollo 11 Moon landing, Walter Cronkite's voice and words are always used as the definitive sound of the that historic event.

Popular Dialogues

"Chris Cross: How come you don't got somebody? Aren't you lonely? Emmett: Yeah, sure. The only thing worse than being lonely with yourself is to be lonely with someone."

"Chris Cross: [opening lines, done in voiceover] I know what I did probably looks like bad news... but I bet you would do the same if you were twelve... and your life was as screwed up as mine. My dad was a bomber pilot in the war. On one of his missions, he hit a hospital filled with kids. It was an accident, but it really freaked him out. That was three years ago, when I was in third grade. Mom used to be for the war like Dad... but that all changed after she saw what it did to him. Dad came back from the war and quit the military. One night, he took me down to the Gulf. We collected driftwood and burned his uniform. Dad said it was nothing but a killer's costume. After that, he moved us from Texas to Key West. In those days, he was drinking a lot. But by spring... he started fasting and took a vow of silence. Then one day, he just disappeared. He wrote Mom and said he wasn't coming back. I wrote him once to ask, "What about me?" He didn't answer."
