Outside of the U.S., where the Crown Vic vehicle is prominently produced and used by law enforcement, the producers behind the film decided to give the film different names in foreign countries who would be unaware of the title's meaning. Therefore in Australia, the film is titled "Protect and Serve", in Germany the film is called "In A Web of Violence" and in the UK the film is called "Bulletproof".
Despite its West Hollywood vibe, Crown Vic was in fact filmed in Buffalo, New York.
At 1:20.20 in the film a radio call for a shooting is reported at Hollenbeck and North Kitridge...the same location as the February 28, 1997 Bank of America, North Hollywood Shootout.
The film's namesake, the Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor (P71/P7B), was discontinued after the 2011 model year after 20 model years of production. As a sedan, it has been replaced in police service by the Dodge Charger and Ford Taurus, and to a lesser degree the Chevrolet Caprice/Impala. Ford has also made a police version of their Explorer SUV that is very popular for police service.
"Ray Mandel: Can't trust a man with no vices. Nick Holland: My old man used to say bad habits were the only thing keeping sane men from going off the deep end."
"Ray Mandel: One thing you gotta remember, man. You're out on patrol, there's the world inside this squad car, then there's everything else outside of it. The only thing keeping you from what's out there is a couple of thin pieces of metal and glass. You gotta respect it. Your equipment too. I mean always respect your equipment."
