Rotten TomatoesDangal is a biographical sports drama movie that revolves around the real-life story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. It shows the journey of Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trains his daughters to become world-class wrestlers and make India proud. The ultra-popular film is known for its emotional quotient, action sequences, and acting performances which make it a thrilling watch. Furthermore, while Aamir Khan as usual is superb in the lead role of the father-cum-coach, the debut casting of Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra is also top notch. Director Nitesh Tiwari has made sure the movie is as close to reality as possible. Overall, Dangal is a film that all patriotic and sports movie lovers will adore for its action sequences, but some unrealistic scenes might just put you off especially during the climax.

After gaining 28 kg. for the initial shoot, Aamir Khan lost 25 kg. in 20 weeks to portray the younger (25 years old) character of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
The movie is a real life story based on Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained "dangal" to 6 girls, 4 of them were his very own while 2 were that of his brother. Interestingly, all of them won medals at some or the other level!
Lead actor Aamir Khan and director Nitesh Tiwari reportedly auditioned 3000 girls for the role of Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, the two daughters of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
Film released on 23 December 2016 and was made tax-free in three Indian states (Uttar Pardesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand) to promote the campaign called Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The campaign is a social initiative that aims to reduce selective abortion of females, to protect girls, and to educate them.
Dangal is the highest grossing Indian movie in the history of Indian films after surpassing Bahubali 2 by its release in China with more than 2000 crores.
"Mahavir Singh Phogat: You have to fight in a way that people will remember you. If you win silver, sooner or later, you will be forgotten. If you win gold, you will be an example, And examples are given, child... not forgotten. See those girls? If you win tomorrow, you will not win alone. Millions of girls like them will win along with you. It will be a victory for every girl who is considered inferior to boys; who is forced into household chores, who is married off to just raise children. Tomorrow's match is the most important one. Because tomorrow, we are not fighting just that Australian, but all those people who think lesser of girls."
"Young Babita: We missed training just for a day. What was the need to create such a big scene? Young Geeta: What kind of father forces his daughters to become wrestlers? Make them wake up at 5 am to run. Works them like slaves. Makes them fight boys. And if they protest, he cuts their hair. May God never give anyone such a father. Geeta's wedded friend: I wish God had given me such a father. At least your father thinks about you. Otherwise, our reality is the moment a girl is born, teach her to cook and clean, make her do all the household chores, and once she turns 14 - marry her off. Get rid of the burden. And hand her over to a man... whom she has never met. Make her bear children and raise them. That's all she is good for. At least your father considers you his child. He is fighting the whole world. He is silently tolerating their taunts. Why? So that the 2 of you can have a future... a life. What is he doing wrong?"
