Christina Applegate had to take therapy after the show because it triggered other emotional moments in her life.
When it was announced that the third season would be the series' last, it was assumed that it was Netflix's decision to end the show; the streaming platform has become known for rarely airing an original series for more than three to four seasons. However, the series' creator Liz Feldman revealed that it was actually her suggestion to wrap up the show with season 3. Feldman said that her decision was inspired by the British comedy-drama Fleabag (2016). Feldman noted that the series aired for two season seasons and only twelve episodes, but told a complete story without "filler" episodes.
Katey Sagal, who plays Judy Hale's mom, famously played Christina Applegate's mom in Married... with Children (1987).
Judy says Steve has a JFK Jr. vibe. James Marsden previously played John F. Kennedy in The Butler.
Judy Hale's (Linda Cardellini) ringtone for phone calls from Jen (Christina Applegate) is a nod to the music from Back to the Future (1985).
