After Disney's acquisution of 20th Century Fox in 2018, the film rights to all X-Men characters (including Deadpool) reverted to Marvel Studios. While Ryan Reynolds will continue to play the role, any future films will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This will be the first R-rated film to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as confirmed by Marvel Studios in January 2021.
Hugh Jackman said he really was done playing the character of Logan/Wolverine after 2017's 'Logan'. When asked why he chose to return for this film, he simply said "I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut."
The film marks Hugh Jackman's tenth time in the role of Logan/Wolverine, following X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), X-Men: First Class (2011), The Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) & Logan (2017).
This would be the first film of Phase 6 in the Multiverse Saga.
