The large, room-sized computer seen in this film appeared repeatedly in 20th Century-Fox productions of the era, and had previously been featured in Desk Set (1957) and The Fly (1958), among others.
The film featured an old river boat turned houseboat. The location of the houseboat was in Richardson Bay, between Mill Valley and Sausalito at Marin City.
This movie was going to be called ERASMUS WITH FRECKLES, after the book on which it was based. But Brigitte Bardot only agreed to appear on the condition that her name did not appear in the credits or any of the promotional materials. The only way the producers could capitalize on Americans' fascination with Bardot was by changing the title to alert the audience that she was in the movie.
When asked to calculate interest on a one dollar bond purchased in 1620 and earning 5% interest annually, Erasmus (Bill Mumy) states the present day value would be $18,532,311.42. That amount in 1965 is the equivalent to about $167,000,000 in 2022, due to inflation.
According to Bill Mumy, this movie shows Brigitte Bardot's first American film kiss - with him.
"Professor Robert Leaf: I don't care how smart they are or how many degrees they've got or how that nuclear gadget of theirs works on the drawing board. An accident is still an accident and sooner or later they're gonna blow us all to hell-and-gone-outta-here. It's only a question of time before one of those fellas shows up some morning with a hangover and pulls the wrong switch or puts too much uranium in the plutonium and WHAM! And don't think I didn't tell 'em so either."
"Professor Robert Leaf: Uh, Ras, I'd like to talk to ya. Vina Leaf: Oh. Man to man stuff. Erasmus 'Ras' Leaf: Already? I'm only eight."
