Since the head of a housefly is made up almost entirely of eye and very little muscle, conveying emotion as the fly was extremely difficult. To overcome this, S.S. Rajamouli used body language - they made Nani cover his head completely in cloth and asked him to perform various emotions just through body language. This data was given to the animation team who then created all the movements and body language for the fly.
One of the films and the only Telugu film considered to be sent out as India's entry to the Oscar Academy Awards 2012 in the best foreign language film category, but lost out to Barfi! (2012).
10 days in, Rajamouli wanted to stop the production since the 'Eega' made by the VFX didn't impress him at all and he had second thoughts on the business the movie would have made. But since around 4-8 Crores were already spent, he decided to move forward and generate the 'Eega' from scratch.
The lead actors' real names were given to their characters also, e.g. actor Sudeep as multi-millionaire industrialist Sudeep, and actor Nani as fire-worker Nani.
The idea for Eega originated in the late 1990s in screenwriter K. V. Vijayendra Prasad's mind. At that time, he was joking about a housefly seeking revenge on a human in a conversation with his son S. S. Rajamouli.
"Nani: If you go even near Bindu... I will kill you!"
"Sudeep: Do flies target humans specifically? I mean remember humans and attack with a plan?"
