TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

David (Sir Ben Kingsley) tells Consuela that she looks like Goya's Maja Desnuda. Penélope Cruz (Consuela) plays Pepita Tudó in Volaverunt (1999), possibly a model for the Maja Desnuda.

(At around one hour and twenty-three minutes) When David (Sir Ben Kingsley) receives the call from Consuela (Penélope Cruz), the spine of a copy of "The Dying Animal" (the Roth novel on which this movie was based) can be seen atop the stack of books beside the phone on David's counter top.

Penélope Cruz said that she felt very comfortable in the nude scenes because director Isabel Coixet is "very protective and those sequences were in the script. There was a reason for that... Anyway, what has taken me the most effort are the scenes with load emotional".

When Consuela is napping on the beach, the book beside her is Selected Essays by John Berger.

Patricia Clarkson and Peter Saarsgard had previously appeared in "The Dying Gaul" (2005).

Popular Dialogues

"David Kepesh: When you make love to a woman you get revenge for all the things that defeated you in life."

"George O'Hearn: Beautiful women are invisible. David Kepesh: Invisible? What the hell does that mean? Invisible? They jump out at you. A beautiful woman, she stands out. She stands apart. You can't miss her. George O'Hearn: But we never actually see the person. We see the beautiful shell. We're blocked by the beauty barrier. Yeah, we're so dazzled by the outside that we never make it inside."
