TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Evelyn's mother is said to have gone to Australia with her lover, but in reality, she went to England and ended up raising another family there. The real Evelyn Doyle eventually saw her mother on more than one occasion, but they never reconciled.

Several decades later, widespread shocking revelations and allegations about the extent of the abuse of children in the care of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland, during this time in the 1950s, have since given this film a much darker undercurrent than originally intended.

Sophie Vavasseur's debut.

Pierce Brosnan and Adian Quinn both played Robinson Crusoe.

Sophie Vavasseur is of French ancestry.

Popular Dialogues

"Michael Beattie: To fight church and state is to fight Goliath. Desmond Doyle: Yeah, well, David beat Goliath in the book I read."

"Sister Brigid: Is God good, just and merciful? Annette Farrell: Yes, Sister. Sister Brigid: "Yes" isn't the catechism answer, is it? What does the catechism say? Annette Farrell: It says... [pauses, unable to remember] Sister Brigid: I've had enough of you, Annette Farrell. Now... [begins to beat Annette with a strap] Sister Brigid: God is infinitely good... [beats her again] Sister Brigid: infinitely just... [beats her again] Sister Brigid: and infinitely - What are you saying to me, child? Evelyn Doyle: I don't think you should do that, Sister. If God is infinitely merciful, he wouldn't want you to do that."
