This film is inspired by the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British World War II veteran who slipped out of his nursing home in England in 2014, wearing his war medals pinned to a jacket under his raincoat. He traveled by bus and ferry to France to attend commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.Jordan announced his intention to make a similar escape in 2015 to attend the next anniversary. He died peacefully at home in The Pines on Jan. 6, 2015.
The storyline bears a striking resemblance to the theatrically released film The Great Escaper (2023), starring Sir Michael Caine. This would appear to be just a coincidence but because of the strong similarities and time of release, Ingenious Media decided to sell the film straight to home viewing platforms.
Pierce Brosnan was 70 years old when this movie was made. His character, Artie Crawford, was 92 & 3/4 when he secretly escaped his care home to return to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day landings. Bernard Jordan, whom this film was based on, was 89 when he walked out of The Pines care home in Hove, England on June 5, 2014 at 10:30 am, to return to Normandy for the 70th anniversary of D-Day landings.
