Ralphie's apartment was actually a loft that was in Downtown Los Angeles.
The film was partly filmed in Los Angeles while most exterior and other interior shots were filmed on location in New York City.
The film was intended to have a theatrical release but no distributors picked it up for distribution before it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2006. The film then went straight to video making its' debut a year later.
Jane Lynch who plays Darren's mom mistakes him for being gay along with his father played by John Kapelos, Lynch is gay in real life.
Eventhough he does not mention it in the film, Darren is from North Carolina and you can tell by the license plate on the Taxi that was parked in the family's drive way as he's leaving back to New York.
