TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

This is based on the true story of three women: Robin Ramirez, Marilyn Johnson, and Amiko "Amy" Fountain. The details were first revealed after a Tuesday morning raid in July 2012 by the Phoenix Arizona Police Department. Included in the seizures were $25,000,000 worth of fake coupons, 22 assault weapons, and 21 vehicles including a 40 foot boat.In February 2013, all three women pleaded guilty. Fountain and Johnson each pleaded guilty to one charge of counterfeiting. Ramirez pleaded guilty to counterfeiting, fraud, and illegal control of an enterprise. Ramirez was sentenced to 24 months in prison and seven years of probation. They were also ordered to pay Proctor & Gamble more than $1.2 million.

This true story was previously covered by a CBS documentary series, Pink Collar Crimes: The Queen of Coupons (2018).

Kristen Bell (Connie) and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (JoJo) previously starred together in The Good Place (2016) as Eleanor Shellstrop and Simone Garnett, respectively as well as season 4 of Kristen's show, Veronica Mars (2004).

When the woman at the fertility clinic was advising Connie (Kristen Bell) about anonymous sperm donors, she mentioned how one very popular guy had made over 400 donations. It's possible this might have been an inside joke about actor, Vince Vaughn's role in the movie Delivery Man (2013). In Delivery Man, Vaughn's character David Wozniak, was a habitual sperm donor and had fathered 533 children. 142 of those kids filed a joined class action lawsuit to force the fertility clinic to reveal his identity.

Leslie Jones was originally attached.

Popular Dialogues

"Woman on Plane: Hey sorry, uhm, would you mind if we switched seats, just for this last part? She really likes to watch out the window as we land and it helps calm her down. Ken: Yeah no, even if I wanted to switch, I think it's more important that your daughter learn a valuable lesson. That's not how the world works y'know. You don't always get your way. [Resumes eating snacks and looking out the window]"

"Simon Kilmurry: For starters, let's talk coupons. Connie: Okay. What do you wanna know? I mean, most people undervalue coupons. Ken: I don't undervalue coupons. Connie: No. No, I guess you don't. I suppose that's why I'm here. But, you know, most people do. Simon Kilmurry: Well, here's what I think: I think you preyed on people. I think nobody understands better than you that people use coupons to save money, or buy things that they need and I think you took advantage of that. Connie: No. No, you're wrong. Simon Kilmurry: Tell me how I'm wrong. Ken: [interrupts Connie] That's really not why people use coupons. It's not about what you buy, it's about the feeling you get. They've done studies. When folks use coupons, their oxytocin levels, they kinda spike, like in they get that little tingly sensation. They call it 'the coupon high'. Supposedly, it's better than intimacy with another person, or so I've been told. Connie: Sorry, I'm unclear. Have you not used a coupon, or have you not had sex? Ken: What happened? [stammering] Ken: No. That's... no. Me? This is not about me, it's about you."
