TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

In the scene where Fletch is singing "Zippedie Doo Dah", the Underhills (William Traylor and Grace Gaynor) from the tennis club in Fletch (1985) are dancing right behind Fletch, rackets and all. Those two (although only cameos), Gilllet (Fletch's ex-wife divorce attorney), Frank (Fletch's editor) and of course, Fletch himself, are the only characters from the first movie to reprise their roles here.

Though there were eight sequels and prequels written by Gregory McDonald that could have been used as the basis for the second "Fletch" movie at the time, Universal decided to write a completely new story.

In the scene when Fletch hides in the morgue's refrigerator from Ben Dover (Randall "Tex" Cobb), the chalkboard in the background has names for the other corpses in storage. Names include those of Wally Cox, Carol Wayne, Allen Ludden, and Paul Lynde, all of whom made appearances on The Hollywood Squares (1965). Most likely, this was done because of the 3 x 3 grid of the refrigeration units.

Fletch's complete list of disguises and aliases is: Peggy-Lee Zorba, Nostradamus, The Colonel, Geometry Fletch, Billy-Jean King, Claude-Henry Smmoot, Peter Lemonjello, Ed Harley, Elmer-Fudd Gantry, Henry Himmler, Eldridge Cleaver, Victor Hugo, and Bobby-Lee Schwartz II.

Real-life televangelist Peter Popoff was the inspiration for Jimmy Lee Farnsworth (R. Lee Ermey) as well as Jonas Nightingale (Steve Martin) in Leap of Faith (1992).

Popular Dialogues

"Fletch: [6:55] Hey Betty, how about lunch at the In N' Out Burger? Betty Dilworth: [disgusted] No. Fletch: Okay, forget the burger, how about just the In N' Out? [she sneers at him] Fletch: Ok, how about just the In?"

"KKK Leader: Folks ain't home. Cross won't burn. Hell, it ain't like it used to be."
