Cher sent millions of clean bottled water to Flint residents when the crisis began.
Cher was cast in the film after hearing about the project and reaching out to the producers. Once she had signed on, the script was written with a specific role for her.
Due to concern over her mother's health, Cher will no longer be appearing in the film.
The controversy in Flint is a very personal cause to Cher. She has been active in raising awareness about the water crisis on social media, and donated hundreds of thousands of bottles of water to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan for distribution to residents.
Flint was also the unfortunate town featured in Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore's debut documentary "Roger & Me."
