Meryl Streep does her own singing. Simon Helberg does his own piano playing.
Florence Foster Jenkins created all her own outfits, inspired by the style of "a Mexican señorita" and 18th-century ball gowns. She also designed her pair of heavenly wings. According to costume designer Consolata Boyle, "She was a supreme performer, so her clothes were gorgeously outrageous. They were high camp but with a softness so she drew people in. And she had no embarrassment about how she looked."
Hugh Grant had semi-retired when director Stephen Frears convinced him to star in this film. Grant said he participated in the film to act opposite Meryl Streep.
Meryl Streep said of co-starring with Hugh Grant as her romantic partner; "I always thought I was too old. But he got older".
Florence Foster Jenkins was in an accident while in a taxi. She was unharmed, but gave the taxi driver a box of cigars because she could now hit a higher note than she could before the accident.
"Florence Foster Jenkins: People may say I couldn't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing."
"Cosmé McMoon: Mr. Bayfield, I am a serious pianist. I have ambition. I... St Clair Bayfield: Oh, you think that I didn't have ambition? I was a good actor. But I was never going to be a great actor. It was very very hard to admit that to myself. But once I had, I felt free from the tyranny of ambition. I started to live. Is ours not a happy world, Cosmé? do we not have fun?"
