About a year after the release of the movie, Sandra Bullock actually did survive a plane crash when the corporate jet she was a passenger in skidded off the runway at the Jackson Hole, Wyoming airport. She was not injured in the crash.
In a scene early in the movie, the two leads are shown sitting in an outdoor location in front of a large rusty globe. This location is in the city of Savannah, although the two characters have not reached Savannah by that point of the story.
The film was initially marketed as a potentially-loose remake of Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), which was also released through Paramount Pictures. The films feature similar plots, of a businessman who has to return home in a short amount of time and finds himself in the company of an annoying loudmouth. Although it was never billed as a remake, numerous interviews claimed the material was at least inspired by John Hughes' film.
The driving scene on the island near the end of the film, supposedly Hawaii, is actually Trunk Bay in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
David Strickland's last film.
"Ben Holmes: Quoting Bishop Jeremy Taylor, "Marriage hath in it less of beauty but more of safety, than the single life; it hath more care, but less danger, it is more merry, and more sad; it is fuller of sorrows, and fuller of joys; it lies under more burdens, but it is supported by all the strengths of love and charity, and those burdens are delightful.""
"Ben Holmes: Sometimes the people we meet change us forever."
