Getting this story into production as a film was twenty-one years in the making.
Sean Faris ran six miles, twice a day, to get in rugby shape in the 100º plus Utah weather.
The events portrayed in this movie were based on actual events, and the main characters are based on, and named for, actual people who participated in those events.
The chants and tribal markings the Highland players make/wear are "a haka" (Maori warrior challenge) before each match. Maori are the aboriginal (native) peoples of New Zealand, and Maori people have a long history of participation in Rugby, the national sport of New Zealand
Larry Gelwix participated in the film as both a cast member (referee #4), and as the film's Rugby technical advisor, also receiving a "special thanks" credit in the end titles. His daughter, Jenny Gelwix, also participated in the film, as the Rugby wardrobe coordinator.
