Even though the movie is supposed to take place in the late 70s, In two of the bar scenes "Say Goodnight to the World" by Dax Riggs can be heard playing in the background. The song was released in 2010.
It was written and directed by Shana Betz (aka Shana Sosin), and is based on her childhood in Fort Lauderdale.
Anna Paquin (Christina) and Brit Morgan (Rain) worked together on seasons 3 and 4 of HBO's True Blood.
The character of Shell is based on writer/director Shana Betz.
