Rotten TomatoesTrue Spirit is the heartwarming story of a teenager who became the youngest person to sail the entire world on her own. This is an exceptional story and the Netflix documentary does do a lot of justice to it by following it up with a lot of context before, during, and after the world record event. It is a rather raw retelling of the event, skipping 20 days at a time, and comparing her life at sea with the routine of her family that was tense at the very least. While the series has its fair share of flaws, and gets slightly boring around the middle, the true story is so endearing that it keeps you hooked onto the very end to know how the teenager really made it big in a feat that is unimaginable to most of us.

Jessica Watson was allowed to keep the replica of her boat used for filming after production had completed.
Jessica's boat - Pink Lady - in the real world had sponsorships all over the hull & sails. But the boat in the movie didn't have any of these.
"Jessica Watson: There's strength in being yourself. You know, I think... that's as hard as climbing any mountain. You know, I think there's bravery in admitting that you're not okay."
"Hannah Watson: Jess, was it a pirate ship?"
