IMDbMost characters' names are German words hinting at their personality or traits. "Frieren" means frozen, referring to the protagonist's always cool demeanor. "Stark" is strong, "Fern" is remote, distant, "Himmel" means heaven, "Eisen" is iron, etc. Antagonists are named along the same pattern. For example Draht means wire, and indeed, his weapon is a magical wire.
The first ever television anime series to premiere in NTV's "Kinyou Roadshow," a Friday evening programming block usually reserved for feature films. The anime then aired later episodes in October in NTV's new anime timeslot.

Based on an action-adventure fantasy manga written by Kanehito Yamada and drawn by Tsukasa Abe. Yamada and Abe launched the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 2020.
