Rotten TomatoesThis prequel to the hit series Game of Thrones doesn't disappoint and definitely lives up to the hype that was created. The premise of House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and includes a story about succession, ancient politics, corruption, and more. For someone who hasn't watched Game of Thrones, this show is definitely going to be full of surprises and it will also seem extraordinary. The cast of actors is exceptional and well-suited, especially Matt Smith and Milly Alcock. They have done a wonderful job. The cinematography, art direction, locations, costumes, and background music are commendable. While watching the series, there isn't a single moment when it gets mundane, or the pace seems slow, in fact, the plot development takes place at the right pace and very smoothly keeping the audience engaged throughout. The show is fantastic and entertaining and definitely should be watched.

In Season 1 of Game of Thrones (2011), George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, wanted his prop head on a pike, but due to budget limitations they couldn't afford it back then. In a recent podcast, Ryan J. Condal (Showrunner of House of the Dragon) promised Martin that his head will be seen in House of the Dragon.
The Iron Throne is greatly redesigned from Game of Thrones (2011). It is larger and asymmetrical to more closely match the description in George R.R. Martin's novels.
The weirwood that Rhaenyra is seen at in the show is the stump of a weirwood that Sansa is seen praying at in season 3 of Game of Thrones. It is highly presumed that the king Baelor the Blessed ordered it be cut down because of his devotion to the Faith of the Seven as the weirwoods were revered in the religion of the Old Gods.
When a King or Queen is cut by the Iron Throne, it is considered by the people of Westeros as an omen that the person is not worthy of the Throne.
With almost 10 million viewers, House of the Dragon (2022)'s pilot "House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)" was the most watched series premiere in HBO's history. The original Game of Thrones (2011) series also saw a huge spike in streaming data in the weeks heading the premiere of this show.
The third season was renewed before the second season even premiered.
Filming for Season 3 began in March 2025.
The season will feature the introduction of the Stark family and the 'Winter Wolves'.
Season 3 is expected to cover some of the most brutal and significant battles of the Dance of the Dragons.
