Film debut of Angela Bassett.

Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford were considered for the roles of Rollie Tyler and Leo McCarthy.

Brian Dennehy and Patrick Stack play similar roles in two different movies. Stack (Sgt. Littauer) appears as backup to Dennehy (Lt. Leo McCarthy) at the 1:34 mark of this movie. Stack also appears as Lt. Morgan, backup to Dennehy's character Sheriff Teasle in the movie First Blood (1982).

When Rollie is ambushed in the back seat of a car, the vehicle crashes through a billboard that has posters for the Code of Silence (1985). Orion Pictures, who made F/X (1986), also made that film.
