IMDbStudio Ghibli animator, Eiji Yamamori, designed the monsters. Yamamori has dedicated his work to his late brother. He was a big Godzilla fan and passed away before the anime was completed. In designing Godzilla, Yamamori said, "I aimed to integrate the image of the early Showa Godzilla and at the same time, create a new look"
While the show prominently features the robot Jet Jaguar, the crew weren't initially enthusiastic when director Takahashi suggested the character's inclusion. According to producer Yoshizawa, when he heard Jet Jaguar was being considered his first thought was "Oh no." Takahashi was surprised by the positive reaction Jet Jaguar received when he first appeared in the trailer mentioning that he "didn't think it would be this popular".
Director Atsushi Takahashi was initially uncertain of how to approach the series stating that he could do what he wanted so long as it was Godzilla.. But that proved to be difficult. Takahashi decided to take lean more on grounded science fiction approach rather than the overt fantasy of the classic Godzilla films. Tô Enjo was brought in to advise before eventually being chosen to write the series. Prior to his writing career, Enjo had previously been a researcher, with a Ph.D. in physics.
The ending sequence contains numerous references to the characters and protagonists of past Godzilla films.
Fans have assumed that this series was made as a response to the Godzilla Anime Trilogy. However, this series was already in development before the Anime trilogy was released. The monumental success of Shin Godzilla (2016) would cause Singular Point to ramp up production.
