"Gundala Putra Petir" comic has been released as a movie with the same title in 1981. But the 2019 version is not a sequel/remake of the 1981 version.
Rumored to have been bought by Netflix. If this is true, Gundala (2019) would be the first Indonesian movie ever to be purchased by Netflix. Despite The Night Comes For Us (2018) being the first Indonesian Netflix original movie, it was never theatrically released prior to being distributed by Netflix.
