Was originally titled "The Flood", but was changed, because the filmmakers didn't want audiences to assume it was primarily a disaster movie.
The morning after the film's L.A. premiere, Christian Slater reported to Ventura City jail to begin a 90-day prison sentence for drug offenses, assault and battery. He would be released after 57 days and enrolled in an anti-addiction program immediately after.
Many of the sets such as the cemetery where Tom hides the money in, were actually water tanks with sets built within them. This appeared on a "Making of" which was aired on HBO when the film had been released in 1998.
