Much of it was filmed on the original movie sets - which are now part of the "Harry Potter Studio Tour" (in Leavesden, England; opened in 2012). Great care was taken in this special to preserve the "magic" of the sets from the movies and not to make it look like the studio tour (i.e. many camera angles are preserving the views from the movies, and don't show the stanchions to designed to keep visitors at bay).
The sets used in the special are a part of the Studio Tour, though this is never directly addressed in the special. This is evident in a moment that clearly was not meant to happen, where Helena Bonham Carter goes behind the counter at Gringotts and invites Dan behind as well. The two of them see all of the goblin animatronics which usually are on the stools, but had been set on the floor to hide them from the cameras during filming of the special.
Robbie Coltrane's last media appearance before his death in October of 2022.
"Robbie Coltrane: The legacy of the movies is, I suspect, that my children's generation will show them to their children. So you could be watching it in 50 years' time, easy. I'll not be here, sadly, but... But Hagrid will, yes."
"Rupert Grint: It's always amazing meeting people that these films mean so much to them, they--'cause we-- they kind of grew up alongside us and helped them with some really difficult things in their lives. And I'm just very proud to be a part of something that means so much to so many."
