Heatwave is a neo-noir suspense thriller that follows a businesswoman who has an affair with her boss' wife and becomes the main suspect in her superior's murder. With cast members like Kat Graham, Merritt Patterson, Cardi Wong, and Sebastian Roche in the mix, the acting performances have been appreciated. The film's director, Ernie Barbarash, knows how to create steamy atmosphere and where to place the camera, but the movie runs out of wiggle room trying to wrap things up. The film piles on too many twists and flashbacks that feel like they are done just for the sake of one-upmanship. Heatwave has a great look, reminiscent of the glossy films of the 90s like Basic Instinct and Disclosure. Overall, Heatwave is a superb take on neo-noir thrillers of today, which make you nostalgic of the yesteryear hits. Watch it for that novelty.
