Provincetown's nickname has always been P-Town.
By November 27, 2017, Starz had put the production, then titled P-Town, into development. In November 26, 2018, Starz gave the production, now titled Hightown, a series order.
The series was originally titled "P-Town" in reference to the nickname of the town it is set in, Provincetown.
In 1984, Mike Pniewski who plays Ed Murphy in this; starred in 'Beverly Hills Cop' with Eddie Murphy!
A world premiere screening of the pilot was planned for the 2020 SXSW Festival before its cancellation due Coronavirus concerns.
