IMDbDirector Donald Wrye directed both the original "Ice Castles" (1978) and this remake.
A number of the original Marvin Hamlisch songs from the original "Ice Castles" (1978) picture feature in this remake including a contemporary remake of the song "Through the Eyes of Love" by Britt Nicole.
Lynn-Holly Johnson, who played as Alexis Winston (Lexi in the remake) in the original Ice Castles (1978) was to have a cameo in the movie. However, her part was edited out, only available to be seen in the DVD extras.
Actresses Taylor Firth and Molly Oberstar had never acted before prior to this picture.
Reportedly, lead actress Taylor Firth was able to land the role of Alexis Winston after executives at Sony Pictures saw her 2007 You Tube ice-skating video.
"[Lexi has become blind, and Nick is encouraging her to try a skating jump as they train together] Nick: Hey, try a jump! Lexi: No. Nick: Get some air! What's the worst that could happen? Lexi: Well, I could fall on my butt, hit my head, and go deaf."
"Nick: I wish you could see the sunset, Lex. Lexi: I'd rather see your face."
