TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Spike Lee inquired about the possibility of working as an assistant director to help fund his film She's Gotta Have It (1986) but didn't get the job.

Several fights broke out between extras. Many Latinos were stating that Hip Hop was collaborated between black/brown while black extras argued that brown "influence" came later. This caused so much tension on set that Russell Simmons grabbed megaphone and shouted "Its Black invented but now everyone is rocking to it. So lets stop fighting and finish this movie".After this, cooler heads prevailed.

This movie marked LL Cool J's big screen debut.

The film is a fictionalized account of the early days of Def Jam Recordings and Rush Management. Rick Rubin and almost all of the musical acts played themselves in the movie. Russell Walker, the character played by Blair Underwood, was based on Russell Simmons, who appeared in the film as the club owner who said, "Let's get these kids on stage," just before the infamous Run's House scene.

At least one scene was shot at the Marble Hill Projects in the south Bronx - viewed in the hip-hop community as the birthplace of hip-hop music and culture.
