The Colonel of the "Bloodless" Third and cause of the massacre at Sand Creek was John Milton Chivington. Chivington was a Freemason and Abolitionist who none the less vehemently hated Native Americans. Ironically Tom Berenger would play Chivington ten years later in the mini series Into the West (2005).
