Rotten TomatoesIn the suspenseful crime thriller Line of Duty, Martin Compston's character, Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, makes his way through the perilous world of police wrongdoing and corruption. Arnott is hired by AC-12, an anti-corruption team tasked with weeding out dishonest officers within the department, after directing a failed operation that led to the death of an innocent man. Arnott becomes entangled in a web of intrigue and deceit as he looks into cases involving everything from organised crime to police brutality, endangering both his job and his life. As the strong but flawed detective, Compston gives a superb performance, while the supporting cast, which also includes Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, adds nuance and complexity to their individual parts. As Arnott and his coworkers are forced to face the realities of police work in a society where the line between good and wrong is frequently blurred, Line of Duty stands apart from other police procedurals by emphasising moral ambiguity and ethical issues.

The series was the highest-ranked current series in a list of the best cop shows of all time and in a poll of the best British crime dramas of all time.
Bestselling author Stephen King, a huge fan of the series, was especially fond of the Irish catchphrases used by superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) such as, "Now we're sucking diesel!" (when you've fallen into good fortune thanks to your own hard work) and "Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey!"
The show is set in an unidentified British city. Several named settings are fictional. However there are many things throughout the show to suggest that said 'city' is somewhere in the Midlands, most likely Birmingham.
