TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The novel on which this film is based is a fictionalized account of actual events. A hostel now stands where Anges MacDonnell's estate once stood.

Most of the film was shot in the location where the events took place in 1894, on Achill Island off the west coast of Co Mayo, Ireland. The house shown in the film, is the one Agnes MacDonnell rebuilt, after her original house was burned down by James Lynchehaun.

Popular Dialogues

"Dr. Croly: In the year 1903, there was a big house on a wild island, where two ladies lived, alone and together. I was a doctor on the island and often visited the house. I still do, but I have no medicine for their secret wounds."

"Agnes MacDonnell: Who are you anyway? James Lynchehaun: Well, I know who I am. But I don't know who you are. Agnes MacDonnell: I am the owner of this estate. You need my permission to shoot on these lands. James Lynchehaun: And I'm the owner of meself."
