Brooks Poston and Paul Watkins, who provided the musical score for the film, were both former members of the "Manson Family".
The film describes Sandra Good as a true believer, and die-hard member of the family. This has not changed in 50 years, and, with the exception of Squeaky Fromme, is possibly the only documented member whose faith has remained undiminished.
Squeaky testifies on camera that she and the other family members were willing to die for Charlie, just as he would be willing to die for them. Years later however, when he saw footage of Susan, Patricia, and Leslie being interviewed from prison, he referred to them as old, ugly, and fools.
By default, a majority of the footage, especially at Spawn Ranch, featured core Family members who were not in jail, or involved directly with the murders, thus, remaining at the ranch and being available to the filmmakers. Before the murders, Manson would not have allowed any film or photography to take place in their private lives, with the exception of audio recording equipment for their music. The members were able to replicate for the cameras the more idyllic environment they had lived in before Manson's philosophy turned homicidal.
