Final film directed by Hugh Wilson.
Shawn Salinas went with the crew to Las Vegas where they shot 18 hours of Second Unit shots, but Harry Connick Jr. did not go. Thus, in the scene where Glen and Mickey arrive in Las Vegas by bus, the shots that include Glen were taken in Virginia while the rest of the scene was shot in Las Vegas.
The hair of Harry Connick Jr. and Shawn Salinas was lightened for their early scenes as Tripp and Derrick and was returned more to their natural color when they played Glen and Mickey.
Hugh Wilson points out in the commentary that because the film was shot using Virginia for Las Vegas, they shot down and shot up to avoid showing the trees and greenery from Virginia that wouldn't be typical in Las Vegas.
Hugh Wilson mentions at 35:15 in the director's commentary that in order to show a batter hitting a home run, he would have the boy throw the ball up and hit it and then during editing he would cut to that shot just as the ball hit the bat. This helps explain the goof in the crane shot where the Havana Little League pitcher, Richardo Bolsa, has one foot in the opposite batter's box when he hits a home run.
"Patty Sinclair: What are the odds? Trip: I don't do odds. I'm a blackjack dealer."
"Tony: So... tell me about your boy. Trip: [chuckling] How'd you know? Tony: About every week I get a call from a guy like you, a serious baseball dad. Looks me up, and he wants his kid to be a Moose. Trip: Yeah, well, he's a great player. Tony: [grinning] Gee, I never heard that before."
