"Bruno Mindhorn" was the name of a character who appeared briefly in an episode ("Jungle") of the radio series of The Mighty Boosh, written by and starring Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding.
The "Mindhorn" opening titles pay homage to The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). Both characters are given bionic implants to help them fight bad guys.
The license plate on Mindhorn's car is "S33 TRU", which is read as "See True", a play on Mindhorn's line of "It's Truth Time!"
David Schofield (Chief Inspector Derek Newsome) made two guest appearances on Bergerac (1981), one of the television shows that this movie lampoons.
The film takes place in 1989 and July 2016.
"Richard Thorncroft: The Benedict Cumberbatch Backlash has begun."
"Richard Thorncroft: Pow! This little firecracker is the real star of Mindhorn. Patricia Deville: [chuckles] Maybe I could get some more lines next time. Richard Thorncroft: [Richard laughing] That's a good one."
