Unlike their original designs, the characters all have fuller frames, providing them with a more natural, healthier body type. Also, the characters now wear flat shoes instead of spiky heels.
The series has an alternate continuity to that of the live-action movie. In the movie, Clawdeen is accepted to Monster High and Draculaura's sorcery is shared with the students; in the series, Clawdeen discovers the school and is initially not let in, and Draculaura's sorcery is kept secret. Also, Draculaura is Taiwanese in the series, but Filipino in the movie.
The series features Salli Saffioti, who voiced Clawdeen Wolf and Cleo De Nile in the original series, as the voice of the Skullette PA and Mrs. O'Shriek.
The characters are generally friendlier in this reboot series. For instance, Cleo is not as mean anymore and she cares a lot about Clawdeen, while Manny is no longer just a bully and is a close friend of Draculaura.
In the series, the Monster High school bell is the iconic Wilhelm scream.
