Final film of Rosalind Russell.
Although filmed in the US the film portrays the scenery of Albania very well. In 1971 there were few books and information about the country. One error that stood out was in the market where there was a sign showing the direction to Tirana. In fact the government took all road signs down as they were paranoid about invading forces and wanted to frustrate them.
Rosalind Russell wrote the screenplay under her mother's name Clara A. McKnight. Russell used C.A. McKnight as her pseudonym.
Producer Frederick Brisson turned down a request from Albania's United Nations delegation to desist from using a pair of Albanian flags in the movie.
WILHELM SCREAM: When the soldier falls off the cliff after seeing Mrs. Pollifax and Farrell hiding.
"Farrell: Cut the bells off the donkeys. Mrs. Pollifax: The what? Farrell: The bells!"
"Mrs. Pollifax: How come you know so much about food? Farrell: Well, sex and food are my only recreation. Mrs. Pollifax: It may be drugged."
