Middle Island where the penguins live in the movie and in real life is no longer accessible to the general public due to conservation purposes
The original "Oddball" was only on the island for 3 weeks, his successors are to be replaced soon (2018) after 7 years on duty
Whale watching is mentioned in the movie as a competition for funds and location but in fact is a well known attraction and has it's own viewing platform from Logans Beach. If the whale watching centre was placed on Middle Island it would be much further away from the whales and logistically expensive endeavour to build and maintain.
Oddball was partly filmed in Warrnambool, Victoria.
The pioneer village in the movie is a real re-enactment village known as Flagstaff Hill where the Maremma dogs can be viewed
"Swampy Marsh: You want the biscuit, you gotta risk it."
