Jeanne Tripplehorn was uncomfortable filming a scene in which her character literally stumbles onto a dead body. Initially the scene was planned to be much gorier than the finished product.
According to Christine Vachon, the production company Killer Films gets its name from this film.
Reportedly the filming of Office Killer (1997) was "not a happy experience" for Cindy Sherman, which may be why it is her only narrative fiction feature-length film.
