Much of the movie was filmed in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, where the actual story of the missing women took place.
Is based on the real life story of a Coquitlam pig farmer who killed a number of sex trade workers and hid their remains on his farm. Of the actual people, the only person whose real name is used as a character in this movie is the pig farmer himself, Robert Pickton.
